To my little man,
It might be a cliché, but the last five years have gone so fast. It doesn’t feel like half a decade has passed since your Dad and I anxiously drove you home from the hospital, to start our new life as a family of three.
And today our expanded family of four will anxiously walk through the big school gates together.
You won’t know it, but your Dad and I will be feeling the same giddy mix of butterflies and fear that you are. Not because we doubt your readiness, but because we’re all stepping into the next big chapter of our family story.
We’re so proud of the wonderful young man that you’ve become.
You’re a big, bright spark. Your energy lights up the room, and you have so much imagination and creativity inside you, that’s just waiting to be set free. And I think your greatest quality is your kindness; you are full of love, little man.
They say that your school days are the best days of your life. As your mama, I hope that all of your days are your best, but I hope that your school days are full of magic.
I have so many hopes and dreams for you, sweet boy.
I hope that school is a place where you’ll feel safe to grow, learn and explore.
I hope this is the beginning of a lifelong love of learning for you.
I hope that the friends you make in primary school become some of the people that are by your side when you’re an adult. Because having friends that have known you since you were five is a pretty special gift.
I hope that while you learn to read and write, you also discover the magic of books and the power of a good story.
I hope that as you learn your times tables, you also learn what it means to be a kind and thoughtful human being.
I hope that while you explore your classroom, that you’ll gain the confidence to go out and explore the world.
I hope that even amidst all the homework and hectic mornings and playground disagreements to come, you always know that your Dad and I are your number one fans.
And I hope that your first day of school is a good one. I’ll be waiting to pick you up at 3.
Love Mummy x
